GALFER COMPLETES ITS DISC SHARK® RANGE WITH THE NEW FRONT DISC FOR MOTOCROSS AND ENDURO

Following the hugely successful introduction of the Shark rear disc to the market and competition, after it was unveiled at EICMA 2023, Galfer has once again raised the bar with the launch of the Shark front disc. The official presentation took place on June 17th at the historic Ciglione della Malpensa track in Italy in the presence of more than 15 journalists from the main European off-road media, together with the best Galfer riders from the Enduro and Motocross World Championships.

During the event, the riders and journalists in attendance had the opportunity to test the Shark front and rear disc sets in action, both on the historic Motocross track and on a specially designed Enduro circuit. They put the new brake discs to the test under different riding conditions and on different terrain, demonstrating the discs’ versatility and excellent performance.

During the test day the journalists and riders were hugely impressed by the Shark disc set, noting how it offers precise and safe braking with significantly improved bike handling and stability. This is possible thanks to the innovative disc design, which not only achieves high performance, but also increases heat dissipation and reduces wear with a very low weight.

Developed with the aim of solving the problem of brake disc overheating, the Disc Shark® has exceptional thermal behaviour, drastically reducing the operating temperature, with specific benefits:

  • Lower operating temperature: The Disc Shark® drastically reduces the operating temperature, with a 30% reduction compared to other high-end discs currently on the market and, moreover, it is manufactured as one piece for greater strength.
  • Unparalleled stability: Even in the least favourable temperature conditions, the Disc Shark® maintains stable and consistent behaviour at all times.
  • Maximum stopping power: The Disc Shark® has a 20% larger braking surface than our previous disc range, increasing pad contact time and braking power. The hole arrangement further enhances braking by making the pad scrape more aggressively.
  • Extended pad longevity: Disc Shark® increases brake pad life by 25-40% under normal conditions. Disc durability is also increased.

The secret to the success of the Galfer Shark range, for both front and rear discs, lies in its innovative design, using research to maximise heat dissipation and guarantee exceptional performance under all conditions. The main distinguishing features are:

  • Openings and fins: These distinctive characteristics of the Galfer Shark range increase the contact area of the disc with the air, allowing for more efficient and faster heat dispersion. This results in a significant reduction in the operating temperature, with obvious benefits for performance and component durability.
  • Different thicknesses: The Shark rear disc is available in two thicknesses: 5 mm for Enduro and 4 mm for Motocross. This choice guarantees greater thermal capacity and resistance, enabling the disc to withstand the most intense conditions experienced in each discipline.

The innovative design of the Shark front disc not only solves the problem of brake overheating, but also offers off-road enthusiasts a number of specific benefits:

  • Powerful, controllable braking: The Disc Shark® guarantees powerful, precise braking in any situation, enabling the rider to modulate the braking force in complete safety.
  • Increased safety: The Disc Shark® offers greater safety, especially on steep and challenging descents, thanks to its ability to maintain a stable performance even under conditions of high thermal stress.
  • Superior durability: The optimised design of the Disc Shark® helps to extend the durability of both the brake pads and the disc itself, reducing maintenance costs and ensuring a more economical riding experience in the longer term.

The new Disc Shark® front disc represents another leap forward in quality that the brake system specialist Galfer has managed to bring to the off-road motorbike braking scene. Resulting from collaboration with the best international off-road riders (Steve Holcombe and Brad Freeman, among others), this innovative product meets previously unexpressed needs and guarantees excellent performance on difficult terrain and at high temperatures.

The Galfer Shark front disc brake has been developed with the same advanced technology and attention to detail that has made the rear disc a success with both motorbike enthusiasts and industry professionals. With the introduction of this new product, Galfer continues to strengthen its position as market leader for high performance brake components. With the Shark front disc, Galfer has completed this range of products and firmly established itself at the forefront of the brake component sector for off-road motorbikes, offering a product that is capable of satisfying the highest demands in terms of performance, safety and durability.

The new Disc Shark® front and rear range is available for the main off-road motorbike models from the brands KTM, Gas Gas, Husqvarna, Beta, Honda, Sherco, Yamaha, Stark and TM Racing. A second phase will also see them developed for Kawasaki, Suzuki, Ducati and Rieju models.

The RRP of the new Disc Shark® front disc is €135 + VAT, while the rear disc is €125 + VAT, regardless of thickness: 5 mm for Enduro and 4 mm for Motocross.

This revolutionary Shark front disc represents the new paradigm in the off-road motorbike scene, offering all riders, whether amateur or professional, the possibility to raise their performance and safety to new levels.
