The Spanish rider of the Gresini Racing team took second place in the Moto3 race at the 2021 Catalan Grand Prix.
The Barcelona-Montmeló circuit, which is very close to the Industrias Galfer facilities, hosted the seventh round of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship season with spectators in attendance for the first time in over a year.
In the Moto3 class, the Gresini Racing riders were very strong throughout the weekend. Gabriel Rodrigo and Jeremy Alcoba took the top two positions on the starting grid on Saturday. In Sunday’s race both riders fought for victory in the leading group, but in a difficult last lap with a lot of traffic, Rodrigo missed out on the podium, while Alcoba came in second. Gabriel Rodrigo finished sixth in the end.
Two other GALFER riders also scored points, with Stefano Nepa (BOE Owlride) coming 10th and Ryusei Yamanaka (Prüstel GP) 14th.
In the Moto2 class, Dutch rider Bo Bendsneyder (SAG Team) put in a great performance to take sixth place in the race. Bo had already achieved a great result in Saturday’s qualifying session with his third place finish, ahead of many of the favourites in the class. In Sunday’s race Bendsneyder tried to keep up with the quick pace set by the eventual winner Remy Gardner, but was unable to do so and ended up 4.5 seconds behind Gardner. His Swiss team-mate Thomas Lüthi managed to score some points by finishing 15th.
The next round in the MotoGP series will take place at Sachsenring (Germany) on 18-20 June.
