FROM THE PELOTON TO THE ROAD: GALFER DEVELOPS ITS NEW SHARK ROAD CENTERLOCK DISC WITH LOTTO CYCLING TEAM

Galfer continues to push innovation and high performance with the launch of its new Shark Road brake disc for centerlock system for road and gravel bikes, its most high-performing disc to date.

Designed for maximum efficiency, control, and lightness, the new Disc Shark®” Road expands and strengthens Galfer’s Road range by combining top-tier materials, cutting-edge technology, and a clear focus on demanding cyclists.

Developed by professionals, built for every rider

The Shark Road disc has been developed and refined in collaboration with the Lotto Cycling Team, a professional squad competing at the highest international level in World Tour events such as the Tour de France, Vuelta a España, and classics like Paris-Roubaix, Milan-San Remo, Liège-Bastogne-Liège or Amstel Gold Race.

Thanks to this invaluable feedback, Galfer’s engineers have optimized key aspects such as lateral stiffness, brake modulation, and thermal dissipation. Intensive use in competition, including demanding races like the spring classics, the Tour, and the Vuelta, turned the team into a real-world testing ground.

This technical alliance has been essential in creating a disc that meets the needs of all riders seeking performance, lightness, and reliability with every brake.

Innovative Shark technology arrives to road and gravel

Shark technology, synonymous with innovation and performance for Galfer, now reaches the road and gravel world after redefining braking standards in the brand’s MTB and Moto Off-Road ranges.

This advanced solution, based on a sophisticated internal fin and venting design, has set new standards for thermal dissipation in extreme conditions, delivering more stable, controlled response and greater component longevity.

Its application to road cycling represents a key milestone in Galfer’s technical evolution, reinforcing its leadership in high-level friction components for the most demanding cyclists.

Engineering at the service of performance

Every part of this new disc has been carefully engineered to optimize braking performance for road and gravel:

  • The iconic Wave design of the braking track enables precise modulation, allowing progressive and stable control even in extreme conditions.
  • The innovative Shark fins play a crucial role in efficient heat dissipation, ensuring temperature remains controlled during long or demanding descents.
  • The disc core is CNC-machined from 7075-T6 aluminum, an aerospace-grade material offering high flatness and structural strength. Its shape has been AI-optimized for maximum rigidity at minimal weight.
  • 8 mm hollow stainless-steel rivets provide solid, reliable bonding between parts without adding weight.
  • The brake track is made of hardened stainless steel, ensuring high durability and consistent thermal behaviour.

More efficient braking, greater durability

This new disc also improves key aspects of on-road performance:

  • It offers enhanced lateral stiffness, forcing both caliper pistons to operate symmetrically, avoiding unwanted friction. This not only improves braking efficiency but also ensures uniform pad wear, increasing their lifespan.
  • It features a Centerlock ring specifically designed for road use, with a notched locking system that prevents loosening during prolonged use or tough descents.
  • The complete unit is 10–20 grams lighter than other widely used road bike options, without compromising strength or reliability:91 g in ø140 mm and 102 g in ø160 mm.

This launch marks the start of a new era for Galfer in road and gravel cycling, an era where every gram matters, every descent demands absolute control, and every detail is crafted to deliver more precise, durable, and reliable braking.

It’s the first step in a new precision-driven evolution by Galfer, where performance is measured in confidence.

The new disc will be available in two sizes starting Summer 2025, with the following specs:

  • DB111FLWCL: ø140 x 1’8 mm, 91 g, RRP €69 (excl. VAT)
  • DB112FLWCL: ø160 x 1’8 mm, 102 g, RRP €72 (excl. VAT)

The new Galfer Road Centerlock Disc will be unveiled at Eurobike 2025 and hit the market in July 2025.
